If you have asked three agencies for a website quote, you probably got three different answers and no price. “It depends” is the industry’s favourite phrase. There is some truth in it, but it is also a way to avoid commitment. Here are the real numbers for 2026, what each tier includes, and where your money actually goes.
Market prices in 2026
Looking at published price lists, freelance marketplaces and quotes from small and mid-sized agencies in Europe, the ranges are these (VAT excluded):
| Type of site | Freelancer | Small/mid agency | Large agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Landing page | €300 – 800 | €600 – 1,500 | €2,000 – 5,000 |
| 5-page business site | €500 – 1,500 | €1,000 – 3,000 | €4,000 – 10,000 |
| 10-20 page corporate site | €1,500 – 4,000 | €3,000 – 8,000 | €10,000 – 25,000 |
| Basic e-commerce | €1,500 – 4,000 | €2,500 – 8,000 | €10,000 – 30,000 |
| Complex e-commerce | €4,000 – 10,000 | €8,000 – 25,000 | €30,000 and up |
The spread is huge because “website” can mean a €50 template with your copy pasted in, or a project with research, original design, copywriting, SEO and integrations. The right price is the one consistent with what you need, not the lowest one.
What drives the price
Four things, in order of weight:
- Custom design or template. A template is cheap but looks like a thousand other sites and is often slow. Custom design starts from your brand and your goals.
- Content. Who writes the copy? Who takes the photos? Professional copywriting for 5-10 pages is worth €500-1,500 on its own. Writing it yourself saves money, but the result depends on how good you are at selling with words.
- Features. Forms, bookings, members areas, multiple languages, ERP or CRM integrations: every feature is development time.
- SEO and performance. A site “done right” has structure, titles, structured data, speed and green Core Web Vitals. Many cheap quotes exclude SEO and resell it as an extra.
The hidden costs nobody mentions
- Hosting and domain: €15/year for the domain, €0 to €300/year for hosting depending on the technology. Modern static sites can cost nothing to host.
- Licences: premium themes (€60-100), paid plugins (€50-300/year), visual builders with subscriptions.
- Maintenance: updates, backups, security. €30 to €200/month. If nobody does it, sooner or later the site breaks or gets hacked.
- Changes: editing copy or adding a page after delivery. Ask upfront what an hour of work costs.
- Ownership: if the site lives on a proprietary builder or on hosting in the agency’s name, switching supplier means starting over. Demand domain, hosting and code in your name.

How to read a quote (and discard the wrong ones)
A serious quote lists the pages, says who writes the copy, specifies what SEO includes, states the timeline and declares who will own domain and hosting. If any of these is missing, ask for it in writing. If the answer is vague, you already have your answer.
Beware of two extremes: the €199 “all inclusive” site (a template with your logo, as you will discover when you ask for a change) and the €15,000 quote without a line explaining what justifies the figure.
In short
In 2026 a professional business site for a small company costs between €1,000 and €3,000; a serious e-commerce site between €2,500 and €8,000. Below those figures you are buying a template; above, you are paying for specific features or an agency brand. Either way, demand a written price and ownership of everything you pay for.
